What exactly can a single-column hydraulic press do?

Nov 19, 2025

Among numerous hydraulic equipment, the single-column hydraulic press (also called a C-type hydraulic press or single-arm hydraulic press) is the most widely used and flexible piece of equipment in enterprises. It has a simple structure, small footprint, is easy to operate, and offers high cost-effectiveness, covering almost all processes including metal processing, stamping, mold pressing, plastic and rubber products, and hardware manufacturing. So, what exactly can a single-column hydraulic press be used for? Why is it seen in various factories?

1. Sheet metal stretching and forming
One of the most common uses of a single-column hydraulic press is the pressing and forming of sheet metal. Due to its powerful adjustable pressure and stable hydraulic control system, it can precisely control the deformation of thin sheets.

Applicable processes include:
Shallow stretching and deep drawing of sheet metal
Pressing and forming of hardware
Forming of aluminum sheets and small stainless steel parts
Forming of small boxes, cups, and lids

In industries such as home appliance components, small hardware parts, and kitchen and bathroom supplies, single-column hydraulic presses are almost standard equipment. It achieves highly repeatable pressing while ensuring the workpiece does not show obvious scratches or wrinkles.

2. Stamping, Trimming, and Edge Pressing
While professional high-speed presses are used for large-volume stamping, single-column hydraulic presses are more flexible for small-batch, multi-specification, and small workpiece production.

It can be used for:
Punching, trimming, grooving
Lightweight stamping forming
Workpiece trimming and finishing
Using with hydraulic punching dies

Compared to mechanical presses, the advantages of single-column hydraulic presses are:
Adjustable punching pressure
Gentle impact, less likely to damage dies
Quieter operation
Safer operation
This makes it ideal for hardware manufacturing, automotive parts prototyping, and small-batch processing enterprises.

3. Press Fitting and Assembly
Another major advantage of single-column hydraulic presses is their high pressing accuracy and controllable stroke, suitable for various parts assembly, positioning, and clamping processes.

Typical applications include: bearing press-fitting, sleeve press-fitting; motor stator press-fitting; interference fit assembly of mechanical parts; small part assembly of molds; pressure curing of bonded parts and composite parts; flattening, straightening, and shaping of workpieces. Many mechanical equipment repair shops and tooling manufacturing companies rely on single-column hydraulic presses for high-precision press-fitting operations.

4. Metal Straightening and Flattening
Metal sheets or profiles often warp or deform during processing and transportation. Single-column hydraulic presses can achieve rapid straightening through stable pressure.

It can: flatten metal sheets; straighten U-shaped steel, C-shaped steel, and angle steel; restore slightly damaged parts; correct mold pressing surfaces. Due to the large space of the single-column structure, long workpieces can be easily placed, making it particularly popular in the metal processing industry.

5. Powder Molding and Rubber Product Pressing
Single-column hydraulic presses can achieve powder pressing, rubber vulcanization pressing, and other processes by changing the molds.

Applicable scenarios include: Pre-pressing of metal powders before sintering
Ceramic powder pressing
Preliminary pressing and molding of rubber products
Hot and cold pressing of plastic parts
Its controllable pressure and stable pressure performance result in more uniform density in the molded parts and higher consistency in the finished product.

6. Why are single-column hydraulic presses so popular?
Simple structure, small footprint, flexible layout
Easy to operate, even beginners can quickly learn
Low cost, simple maintenance, extremely high cost-effectiveness
Deep opening, large operating space, suitable for non-standard workpieces
Adjustable pressure, controllable stroke, strong adaptability
Suitable as an independent piece of equipment in a single-station production line
